There’s a lot of great blogging going on in the Intro to New Media Studies class<\/a> (always room for more, of course), much of it sparked by Ted Nelson’s Computer Lib\/Dream Machines<\/em>. We’re moving from Nelson to Alan Kay and Adele Goldberg next Tuesday, but before we go, I thought I’d share a recent response that gladdened this teacher’s heart.<\/p>\n

According to Nelson, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153we live in media, as fish live in water.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d According to my anthropology professor, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153we exist in culture like fish in water.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d So I guess this means that culture = media. I never thought of this connection before. To me culture always meant customs, vernacular, superstitions, and religion. But never computers or the Internet.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
