{"id":399,"date":"2006-08-09T08:51:41","date_gmt":"2006-08-09T12:51:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gardnercampbell.net\/blog1\/?p=399"},"modified":"2006-08-09T08:51:41","modified_gmt":"2006-08-09T12:51:41","slug":"strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gardnercampbell.net\/blog1\/strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"Strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Funny how the small moments stick with you.<\/p>\n<p>At one of the SAC sessions yesterday, a speaker reminded us that &#8220;hope is not a strategy.&#8221; It&#8217;s a good reminder that points to the need for careful planning and deliberate choices. I&#8217;ve never seen a pie in the sky myself (where did that image come from, I wonder), but I&#8217;m pretty confident that effective leaders should not be shading their eyes and scanning the heavens for dessert.<\/p>\n<p>And yet.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the day, a group considered the promise of an emerging technology. That promise seems enormous, but there are many rivers to cross to get to fulfilment. As we wrestled with the need for demonstrable functionality <em>now<\/em>, one participant spoke up and said, &#8220;hope may not be a strategy, but grounded belief is.&#8221; To which another person replied, &#8220;yes, and all strategy is grounded belief.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Amen to that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Funny how the small moments stick with you.
