What did I think about the sudden shift to online learning during the lockdown? In the interview, a sudden metaphor came to me, as I heard in my mind the Dire Straits song &#8220;Skateaway,&#8221; from\u00a0<em>Making Movies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U3Y3T58UMKY?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Making movies &#8230; on location.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Last night Diego Real, a colleague in Colombia whom I met in Vancouver back in 2009 at my first Open Education conference, sent out this tweet about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gardnercampbell.net\/blog1\/?p=3135\">my post from yesterday<\/a>. He articulates the movie-making metaphor much better than I had.<\/p>\n<p>Yes: &#8220;Learning as storytelling, like a movie in which everyone is the protagonist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>George Orwell observed that what we want even more than to be loved is to be understood. Across many miles, and in a strange loop of time, I feel not only understood, but <em>better able\u00a0to understand<\/em>. And for that I am grateful. Thank you, Diego. The Internet still works its magic, because there are still magicians like you, doing their work.
